I believe the triasmissnons of that period used a throttle valve cable. it controls trans line pressure and is critical to trans performance. look up bow tie overdrives.com and look for an article called TV made easy . in the meantime make sure the TV cable is connected to your carburetor,and adjusted properly. check your trans fluid level. look at the condition of the fluid on the dipstick if the trans fluid is brown and smells burnt, the trans has overheated and should be overhauled.
