1962 Chevy Bubble Top Custom

D&P Classic Chevy is proud to reveal one of their latest projects, a ZR1 Powered 1962 Chevrolet Belair 2 door hardtop.

This rare bubbletop was located in the mid-west as a complete project. D&P was asked to build a fast, full-size that had all the modern features of today’s vehicles. The owner also wanted the car to be scraping the pavement at ride height. This complicated the build as GM full size vehicles of this era have drop down foot wells which would create a clearance problem with a stock chassis. The stance desired by the owner required that all new floors, trunk, firewall and custom tubs be custom built for the 62.

After consultation with the owner D&P commissioned Art Morrison Enterprises to build a new heavy duty chassis. The chassis was engineered with a complete “Ride Tech” air ride system to provide a superior ride. As this Belair was under construction GM Performance Parts released the new ZR1 Corvette engine (the LS9) to the aftermarket. After consultation with the owner D&P engineered the LS9 into the engine bay which required an engine setback for clearance.

The LS9 is a fuel injected, supercharged, inter-cooled LS based engine making an estimated 638 horsepower. The LS9 was backed up by a GM Performance 4L80 4 speed automatic transmission. The differential is a Ford 9 inch. The brake system is a 4 wheel Wilwood system. Other features include power rack and pinion system, Street & Performance Pulley System, Vintage Air conditioning, Tilt Ididit Column, power windows, all new custom Smoke gray glass, One-off 20″ & 22″ Asanti wheels, StitchCraft Custom Leather interior, Lokar Shifter, Rick’s Hot Rod’s Stainless tank, custom exhaust by Chad’s Headers and much more.

The construction of this custom Belair involved a complete body-off the frame restoration with modernization of every component. Don’t be fooled, this full size hauls. The modern chassis, suspension and steering allow it to handle like today’s modern vehicles with a lot more style and command presence.

This car was built to be driven and has already clocked a lot of local miles awaiting next year’s car show season. It is currently being featured on the cover of the December 2011 issue of Super Chevy Magazine.
